KARPAHA SANDS Nr Pasikuda, East Coast Sri Lanka

We are really excited to welcome Karpaha Sands to the Trip & Tonic Collection, a stunning new 17 bedroom luxury beach hotel on the east coast of Sri Lanka. Here are a few great reasons to visit Karpaha Sands:

A GREAT SPOT ON THE EAST COAST  The property is located just 20 minutes south of Pasikuda making it accessible by road and plane. The property sits on an old coconut plantation in the middle of Kalkuda Bay, a 15km stretch of white sandy beach. The property boasts a 250m beachfront and 14 acres of land.

WEATHER The east coast season goes on for much longer than most of us assume (or what you read online). The temperature maintains a pretty stable 85 degrees year-round. From December to February, during the ‘monsoon’ the seas can be quite rough and swimming is not always possible. But this should not put people off as it can be a lovely time to stay. The property was full at Christmas & New Year and everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather, a cooling breeze, and swimming in the stunning pool. The rates during ‘quiet season’ also provide fantastic value for money. From March the winds subside and the weather is typically very pleasant. From May-Oct blue skies dominate and the temperature can get pretty hot. By November there are normally some thunderstorms and or rain, which continue through to February but these tend to be pretty sporadic.

THINGS TO DO People come to Karpaha to really chill out, normally having spent a couple of weeks travelling around the island before they’ve reached the coast. Guests tend to hang around at the stunning pool area, where there is also a lounge, restaurant, bar and library. For some extra RnR there is an onsite Spa offering a variety of treatments. For those wanting to stretch the legs, a walk or cycle up the beach is recommended or additional day trips can be organised from Pasikuda, such as water sports, diving and snorkelling trips etc.

WINING AND DINING Karpaha are very passionate about their food and they have a wonderful à la carte menu serving up a fusion of Sri Lankan and International cuisine. Breakfast and lunch can be served at the pool, lounge, restaurant or in the room and dinner is served in the restaurant (or room service).  Private beach dinners can also be organised.

Naturally, there is plenty of fish on the menu and Karpaha support the local fisherman who they share the bay with by buying fresh fish everyday, which is then served up for lunch or dinner.

ARTY The owners and designers have created a very stylish hotel that is unique to anywhere else in Sri Lanka. One of our favourite features is their collection of sculptures that are dotted around the property, adding individual charm and personality.

Take a Peep…

There are 17 luxury tented suites spread across 3 different room types, all offering generous space and privacy. They’ve been beautifully styled with natural materials – wood, stone, fabric – that blend with the environment. All the suites offer bedroom and living areas, private indoor bathrooms, outdoor showers and private decks with loungers, as well as generous outdoor space. Air-conditioning and fans help keep the rooms nice and cool.

PALAM SUITES: There are 9 Palam Suites which are beachfront and come with a king-size bed, and perfect for couples wanting direct ocean views and to hear the soothing sound of the sea from their bed.

KOLAYA SUITES: The 6 Koyala Suites are the lead-in rooms located in the next row back and are slightly smaller than the Palam Suites, but still very spacious and comfortable.

SEED SUITES: The 2 Seed Suites offer 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and are ideally suited for families or friends travelling together.
